Cafergot is indicated for the acute treatment of vascular headaches. It is particularly effective for:
Migraine Attacks: Relieving the throbbing pain, light sensitivity, and nausea associated with a migraine episode.
Cluster Headaches: Reducing the intense, piercing pain usually felt around one eye.
Vascular Headaches: Addressing headaches caused by the abnormal dilation (widening) of blood vessels in the skull.
Serious Drug Interactions: Do not take Cafergot if you are using certain antibiotics (like Erythromycin/Clarithromycin), antifungal medicines (like Ketoconazole), or HIV/AIDS medications (Protease inhibitors). Combining these can cause dangerous "Ergotism"—a condition where blood flow to the extremities is severely restricted. Cardiovascular Risk: Do not use if you have high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, or peripheral vascular disease. Pregnancy: Cafergot is strictly contraindicated in pregnancy as it can cause uterine contractions and fetal harm.
For the best results, take Cafergot at the first sign of a migraine attack.
Initial Dose: Take 2 tablets at the very start of the headache.
Follow-up: If the pain persists, you may take 1 tablet every 30 minutes.
Maximum Dose: Do not exceed 6 tablets per attack and do not exceed 10 tablets in any 7-day period.
Note: This medication is not intended for daily "preventative" use. Overuse can lead to "rebound headaches" where the pain returns more frequently once the drug wears off.
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and a restless feeling (due to the caffeine). Some patients may experience coldness or tingling in the fingers and toes. If you experience severe muscle pain in the legs, chest pain, or a very fast/irregular heartbeat, stop use immediately and contact our pharmacist or your doctor.

Q: Can I take this with Panadol or Ibuprofen?
A: Generally, yes, but only if directed by your doctor. However, you should never combine Cafergot with other "Triptan" migraine medications (like Sumatriptan) within a 24-hour window.
Q: Why does it contain Caffeine?
A: Caffeine helps the body absorb the Ergotamine more quickly and effectively. It also helps constrict the blood vessels, which is part of how the headache is stopped.
Q: Will it make me sleepy?
A: No. Because of the 100mg of Caffeine (roughly the amount in a cup of coffee), it is more likely to make you feel alert or slightly jittery.
Q: Can I use it for a normal tension headache?
A: No. Cafergot is specifically for vascular headaches. It is not effective for regular muscle-tension headaches or common fever-related pains.
