Ciprotab is indicated for the treatment of serious bacterial infections, including complicated Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs), kidney infections (pyelonephritis), and respiratory tract infections like pneumonia or acute sinusitis. It is also highly effective for "Enteric Fever" (Typhoid), bone and joint infections, and certain sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like uncomplicated gonorrhea. In some cases, it is used for skin and soft tissue infections caused by susceptible Gram-negative bacteria.
Tendon Rupture Risk: Fluoroquinolones like Ciprotab are associated with an increased risk of tendonitis and tendon rupture (especially the Achilles tendon). This risk is higher in patients over 60, those taking corticosteroids, or those with kidney/heart transplants. If you experience sudden pain, swelling, or inflammation in any tendon, stop taking the medication immediately and rest the area. Do not take Ciprotab if you are taking Tizanidine (Zanaflex).
Take one tablet twice daily (every 12 hours) for the full duration prescribed by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food, but taking it with a meal can help reduce potential stomach upset. Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water to ensure proper hydration of the kidneys.
Note: Avoid taking Ciprotab at the same time as antacids, iron supplements, multivitamins, or dairy products (milk/yogurt), as these contain minerals (calcium, magnesium, aluminum, iron) that can bond with the antibiotic and prevent it from being absorbed. Wait at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after such products.
Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and a temporary headache. Some users may experience increased sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity); wear sunscreen and avoid tanning beds during treatment.
