Rhogam IV Injection is a Rho(D) immune globulin preparation used to prevent Rh incompatibility complications in pregnancy. It works by providing passive antibodies that prevent the mother’s immune system from producing antibodies against Rh-positive fetal blood cells, protecting future pregnancies from hemolytic disease of the newborn. Rhogam is typically administered intravenously or intramuscularly under medical supervision.
Uses:
Rhogam IV Injection is used to prevent Rh sensitization in Rh-negative mothers who may be carrying an Rh-positive baby. It is administered during pregnancy, after delivery of an Rh-positive infant, or after events that may cause fetal-maternal blood mixing, such as miscarriage, abortion, amniocentesis, or trauma. This helps prevent hemolytic disease of the newborn in subsequent pregnancies.
Who Should Take It:
It is suitable for Rh-negative pregnant women who are at risk of developing antibodies against Rh-positive fetal blood cells. The injection should only be given under healthcare supervision, following blood type testing and clinical assessment.
Common Side Effects:
Common side effects may include mild injection site reactions such as pain, swelling, or redness, mild fever, or headache. Severe allergic reactions are rare. Patients should inform healthcare providers of any history of immune disorders or allergies.
