Xylase is indicated for the reduction of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with Open-Angle Glaucoma or Ocular Hypertension. Permanent Eye Color Change: Latanoprost may cause a permanent increase in the brown pigment of the iris (the colored part of the eye). This is most noticeable in eyes with mixed colors (e.g., blue-brown, grey-brown, or yellow-brown). It may also cause your eyelashes to grow longer, thicker, and darker. Avoid Contact Lenses: The preservative in Xylase (Benzalkonium chloride) can be absorbed by soft contact lenses and may discolor them. Remove lenses before use and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting.
The standard dose is one drop in the affected eye(s) once daily, preferably in the evening. Using the drops more than once a day can actually reduce their effectiveness.
Application Technique:
Wash your hands thoroughly.
Tilt your head back and gently pull down the lower eyelid.
Instill one drop into the pocket formed by the eyelid without letting the dropper tip touch your eye or any other surface.
Close your eye and press gently on the inner corner (near the nose) for about 1 minute to prevent the medicine from draining into your tear duct and entering your bloodstream.
Common localized side effects include mild eye redness (hyperemia), a sensation of a foreign body in the eye, blurred vision, or stinging upon instillation. Some patients may notice a darkening of the skin on the eyelids. If you experience sudden vision changes, severe eye pain, or eyelid swelling, contact your ophthalmologist immediately.
Before Opening: Store the bottle in a refrigerator ($2°C$ to $8°C$) to maintain the stability of the Latanoprost.
After Opening: The bottle can be stored at room temperature (below 25°C) but must be discarded 4 weeks after opening, even if some liquid remains. Protect the bottle from direct light and keep it out of reach of children.
