Lonart Suspension is a high-quality, orange-flavored antimalarial specifically formulated for infants and children. It contains a fixed-dose combination of Artemether and Lumefantrine. This "ACT" (Artemisinin-based Combination Therapy) is the first-line treatment recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Nigerian Ministry of Health. Artemether works rapidly to kill the majority of malaria parasites, while Lumefantrine remains in the blood longer to "mop up" any remaining parasites, ensuring a complete cure and preventing resistance.

Lonart is used to treat uncomplicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum, including multi-drug resistant strains. It is particularly effective for:
Rapid Fever Reduction: Quickly lowering the high temperature associated with malaria.
Parasite Clearance: Killing the parasites in the child's bloodstream within hours.
Complete Cure: The 3-day course is designed to eliminate the infection entirely.
Pediatric Compliance: The pleasant fruity flavor makes it easier for parents to administer the full dose to fussy or ill children.
The 3-Day Rule: You must complete the full 3-day course (6 doses total), even if the child seems completely recovered after the first dose. Stopping early allows the strongest parasites to survive, leading to a relapse. Fat Intake: For the medicine to be absorbed properly, the child must take it with a meal containing fat (e.g., milk, pap with milk, or food with a little oil). Without fat, the Lumefantrine will not work. Vomiting: If the child vomits within 30 minutes of taking the dose, you must re-administer the full dose. If they vomit after 30–60 minutes, give a half-dose. Severe Malaria: Do not use this for children who are unconscious, convulsing, or unable to drink; they require Gsunate Injection immediately.
Lonart is usually supplied as a dry powder that must be "reconstituted" (mixed with water) before use.
Preparation Steps:
Boil & Cool: Boil fresh water and allow it to cool to room temperature.
Fill: Slowly add the cooled water to the bottle up to the mark indicated on the label (the "ring" on the bottle).
Shake: Close the cap tightly and shake vigorously until the powder is fully dissolved.
Wait: Let the foam settle, then check if more water is needed to reach the mark again.
Standard Dosage (for children 5kg–14kg):
Dose: 5ml (one teaspoonful) twice daily.
Schedule: * Day 1: Give the first 5ml immediately, then the second 5ml exactly 8 hours later.
Day 2: Give 5ml in the morning and 5ml in the evening (12 hours apart).
Day 3: Give 5ml in the morning and 5ml in the evening (12 hours apart).
Lonart is generally very well-tolerated by children. Some may experience a temporary loss of appetite, mild stomach pain, or a slight cough. Occasionally, a child may seem a bit dizzy or sleepy. If your child develops a severe skin rash, yellowing of the eyes, or dark urine, stop use and contact our pharmacist or a doctor immediately.
Before mixing, store the dry powder in a cool, dry place. Once mixed with water, the suspension is only stable for 7 to 14 days. Store the mixed bottle in a cool place (not necessarily a refrigerator, but away from heat). Keep out of reach of children.
Q: Can I mix the dose with the child's milk bottle?
A: It is better to give the 5ml dose directly with a syringe or spoon, and then immediately follow it with a milk feed. Mixing it inside a large bottle of milk risks the child not finishing the whole bottle and missing part of the dose.
Q: My child has a "Cough and Catarrh" too; can I give paracetamol?
A: Yes. Lonart does not contain a painkiller. You can give Paracetamol syrup alongside Lonart to help with the fever and body aches.
Q: Is it safe for a 3-month-old baby?
A: Lonart is safe for infants weighing over 5kg. If your baby is very small or younger than 2 months, please consult our pharmacist for weight-based dosing.
